Available Oil Paintings

"Memory"

oil and beeswax on canvas, 40 x 30 inches, framed

Price $16,800.00 USD

While raising a family, when a pet died we honored their legacy.  When our pet hamster, Winnie Bubbles Sugar died of old age, my daughter told me that Winnie taught her how to happily play by herself.  She asked me to crochet a little hat with ears, which she wore in memory.

"Babette's Emotional Support Pet"

oil on wood, 20 x 16 inches, framed,

Price: $4,800.00

The girls I paint are a little like Alice; they struggle while changing in a world that is constantly in flux and evolving in a way that often feels illogical in its very nature.  Like in Wonderland, dreams of lovely things have a hint of absurdity.  This duet has a job to do but each approaches it differently.

"Little Miss Sisyphus' Emotional Support Pet" oil on linen, 24 x 18 inches, framed

Price $6,480.00 USD

Little Miss Sisyphus is busy vacuuming rose petals only to have more fall again and then do the same thing the next day.  Like her namesake, Sisyphus, in Greek mythology who endlessly rolled a boulder up a hill, Little Miss Sissy continues a never-ending task that at times seems ridiculous.

"White Noise"

oil on linen, 31 x 44 inches, framed

 Price: $20,460.00 USD
White Noise holds up a mirror, metaphorically reflecting my thoughts on contemporary US life. It symbolizes the preoccupations that lull me toward an aimless search for an escape and distract me from reality.  White noise is where I sit, hope, search for peace and wait.

"Maiden Voyage"

oil on canvas, 40 x 30 inches, framed

Price: $18,000.00 USD

In the Maiden Voyage, I imagine this inexperienced Aviator gains confidence while attached to a pulley system and practices flying over a paperboard landscape.  Although she is unfortunately related to flightless chickens, she continues her training with a sense of purpose.

 "Swim Practice"

oil on linen, 36 x 46 inches, framed

Price $24,840.00 USD

In Swim Practice I've dipped my toe into an imaginary world, allowing me to become fully immersed in a Victorian retro futuristic world, where my young debutante can practice swimming while being fully protected.

"Little Miss Sisyphus (a.k.a. Sissy)"

oil on linen, 44 x 34 inches, unframed

Price $22,440.00 USD

Sissy is named after Sisyphus in Greek mythology who endlessly rolled a boulder up a hill. Like Sissy, I've made peace with my daily tasks despite challenges and the elephant in the room.  I create my purpose, values and meanings while accepting inspiration from many surrealistic sympathizers.

"Pink Hook Dreams"

oil on linen, 45 x 38 inches, unframed

Price: $25,650.00 USD

I imagine there are complications and benefits to choosing a wild companion such as a flamingo.  From all appearances, the dream is idyllic, with lush flowers, a quiet pool, butterflies, and the soft hum of bees.  I imagine we are cohorts cautiously moving toward the same end.

"Milkweed Mermaid's Butterfly Mission"

oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches, framed

Price: $16,800.00 USD

I imagined how the armored mermaid and the child in an ornate egg might aid in the safe migration of the butterflies.  As they were cared for in their migration, I imagine that the butterflies would reciprocate by making sure the child safely traveled with them.

"Summer Goddess"

oil on linen, 60 x 42 inches, unframed

Price: $37,800.00 USD

Enveloped by the lush green forest and the buzzing insects my soul is filled with awe and gratitude.   I watch a rabbit  nibble bits of bark off a sapling and soon after the rabbit emerged in my canvas garden.  This painting allowed nature into my brick-and-mortar studio, surrounding me with beauty and meaning.

"Mirror Mirror"

oil on linen, 60 x 42 inches, unframed

Price: $35,000.00 USD

For me, the color yellow represents both vitality and the fragility of childhood and life.  This painting is a record seeing my child's individual spirit emerge and search for a little extra time for self-exploration.  It is an artifact from the beautiful, better world my children have actively created in real time.

"Presentation of the White Rabbit"

oil on canvas, 48 x 72 inches, framed

Price: $37,000.00 USD

In this strange unpredictable world, I strive to draw attention away from my faux-paws and toward my coiffed hair, elaborate gown and accessories.   My focus is on this momentous occasion.  Today is the royal presentation of White Rabbit into my beautiful strange utopia.

"She Who Navigates the Ocean"

oil on linen, 36 x 46 inches

Price: $24,840.00 USD

In this painting, an armored swimmer is practicing in preparation for joining a society that tames areas of the ocean floor with English rose gardens.  Another title for this painting is "Societal Rule 6: One must never wear a diving suit that resembles prey."

"Daughters of Atlantis: The Decompression Chamber"

oil on canvas, 52 x 42 inches,

Price: $32,760.00 USD

I've dipped my toe into an imaginary ocean that fully immerses me in a Victorian retro-futuristic world, where societal sisters in armor and scuba gear enjoy a cup of tea and an impromptu concert following a long dangerous day of taming the ocean floor by planting English rose gardens.

"Liberty Washing the White off the Roses"

oil on linen, 60 x 42 inches, unframed

Price: $37,800.00 USD

Liberty couragously steps into a burning bush while an armored white rabbit blows out a match.  Who started the fire?  Her garment consists of the crying eyes of her ancestors, their tear wash the white off the red roses.  I am reminded that everything is grist for the mill of awareness.

Hire for a Commissioned Painting

Can't quite find the perfect piece for that awkward space above the fireplace?  Love the imagery in my work but wish the face was your partners or the animal was your kitty?  Or maybe an artwork has already caught your eye, but it's needs a different “twist” or it's not quite the right size or color scheme.
No worries.  Let's connect and create a commission.  I price commissions like my original oil paintings between $13 per square inch (psi) and $15 psi depending on the complexity of the work requested.  For example, 18 x 24 inch at $13 psi would be $5,616.00 and takes about two months to paint. 18 x 24 inches is the smallest I paint for commissions.  All commissions are oil paintings either on triple primed wood or linen.

How it works? Set your desired budget, describe your perfect artwork and set a completion date.  Contact me by email or by phone and we will further discuss your requirements.  If you can upload images for inspiration that would be lovely.
Once the contract is approved and a non refundable deposit of 30%  paid, I will begin painting.   I'll be with you every step of the way with photos and regular updates on the painting.  After our final critique of the painting, I can make two or three modest adjustments if needed.  When your happy with the final piece, pay the balance.  Tax and shipping are not included in the final price so will be added to your final balance.  Please note, I happily accept payment plans.

“…with ball gowns made of eyes, braids of hair with agency of their own and the pointiest feet you've ever seen -- look like the stuff of fairy tales.” Margo’s paintings look as if Jan Van Eyck took a little trip down the rabbit hole characterizes your work colorfully and with exactitude."

          American Art Collector Magazine

"Margo Selski  is my #1 pick for 17 contemporary women artists: the best of real and surreal in painting.  She creates a fairy tale universe, depicting her family secrets in the surreal paintings…Every painting is a world of fragile self-exploration and heightened emotions. There is a sense of passing time that flows through fantasy that becomes a hidden reality."

          Hampton's Art Hub

“In culling characters and their stories from a fictitious world, Margo symbolically channels the uneasy nature of living and being human. Margo's art addresses the complexity of motherhood, familial love, identity and the fragility of childhood and life. Her paintings explore the clash between myth and reality, control and spontaneity, permanence and impermanence, and appearances and actuality.”

Anna Journey, USC Dornsife, English Department

"I find great inspiration in lingering in the worlds of your imagination which seems to me dark, nuanced, sly, uncanny, and fabular...I would offer an additional characterization: as if Remedios Varo and Hans Christian Anderson exchanged tales in an Elizabethan parlor.

          RJD Gallery Richard J Demato

"Exemplified by her delicate final application of beeswax, perfectly mimicking ancient Renaissance paintings cracked with age, Margo examines the tension of polarities, the fragility of innocence and life's imperfections.  Her Sothern Gothic childhood from small-town Kentucky left little extra time for self-exploration and self-discovery.  The paintings are artifacts of a timeless state of beauty she seeks, and a better world she actively creates in real time, with subject matter that is contemporary, psychological and highly autobiographical."

          Artsy

"Margo's characters loosely resemble classical fairytale protagonists such as Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Alice from Alice in Wonderland, although some figures, such as the androgenous Theo from "The Daughters of Atlantis, Passing the Torch (2013), are contemporary creations.  Selski juxtaposes steampunk props with Victorian sensibilities, inserting egg cyclones, and other contraptions to heighten the sense of uneasiness within her work."

          Brandon Voss

"What's a mother to do when her 12-year-old son has a passion for long hair and lovely dresses?  If she's surrealist artist Margo Selski, she lets him pose as the subject of her fantastical paintings in the exhibition "Hitherto and Henceforth."

Springfield Museum of Art- Christine Fowler Shearer, PhD

" Women artists such as Margo Selski Parker face the need to navigate their careers and their roles as mothers, wives, and daughters and must strike the difficult balance among their many roles. In considering the recent pandemic-when traditional values of educating children and caring for family once again took priority in their lives, the work of these artists reminds us that women today still face many of the barriers experienced by the generations of artists who preceded us.

The images and narratives may mirror your own personal experiences. As you reflect on the artwork, Margo and the curator hope you will agree that she deserve to be considered as significant, contributing artist, and that it is possible to cast-off the limitations of the term "woman artist."
